Iran has reacted strongly to a statement by US President Donald Trump. Trump recently said that he saved Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei from a ‘violent and humiliating death’.

On Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned Trump’s statement, calling it ‘disrespectful and unacceptable’.

In a post on social media, Araghchi said, “If President Trump is serious about making a deal, he should stop using disrespectful language towards Ayatollah Khamenei and refrain from hurting the feelings of his millions of followers.”

Araghchi added, “The proud and powerful Iranian people, who have shown the world that the Israeli army had to run to their “daddy” to escape our missiles, do not tolerate threats or insults.”

Last week, the United States attacked three Iranian nuclear facilities. However, there is disagreement about how effective the attack was. The attack directly involved the United States in the Iran-Israel conflict. The conflict between Israel and Iran, which began on June 13, lasted 12 days, and a ceasefire between the two countries was reached.

Trump claimed in a post on his own social media site Truth Social on Saturday that he had saved Khamenei from assassination.

Trump wrote, “I knew exactly where he (Khameni) was hiding. I did not let Israel and the most powerful armed forces of the United States end his life.” He added, “I saved him from a violent and humiliating death. He does not have to say “Thank you, President Trump” to me!”

Trump claimed that he had been working in recent days to lift sanctions on Iran, which is one of Tehran’s main demands.

The US president said, “But that did not happen. Instead, anger, hatred and resentment were poured out against me. Immediately, we stopped all other work, including lifting sanctions.”

Trump also called on Iran to return to the negotiating table.

However, Iran says it has no plans to resume nuclear talks with the United States. Earlier, Trump claimed that talks would begin next week.
